Kyoto People Features

In Japan, there are stereotype images for Kyoto people. They say as follows:
- Kyoto people are closed to the others.
- Kyoto people will not tell real intentions.
- Kyoto people have much pride.
I partially understand what they say especially for very traditional Kyoto people, Because Kyoto has long history and was always in the center of Japan culture. So they have traditional jobs and long family history, and need to succeed to the next generations. But the number of those people is very limited. And the remaining are downtown Kyoto people like me. We were born here and just love Kyoto. But both people are basically very friendly and kind! So you don’t have to worry!

Do the Japanese speak English?

In Japan, we learn English at school at least for 6 years. But most of the Japanese cannot speak English correctly or frequently.
At the public spaces like airports or stations, you can easily find the Japanese staff who can speak English well, but in the town, it's might be difficult. But don't worry! As long as you talk to them, they try to answer to you. At the beginning, they may be shy, but they are enough friendly and kind. So please talk in simple words. Then you can communicate!
